Hospital Financials
Hospital finances from CMS HCRIS Medicare cost reports, attached to each hospital through the versioned facility-identity crosswalk. Every value states the fiscal year it came from, the filing behind it, and whether a comparable multi-year series exists. Measures the project cannot yet compute are named and explained below rather than shown as blanks — an empty card is not the same as "no data".

CMS Healthcare Cost Report Information System (HCRIS) — Hospital (HOSP10)
Financial values come from each hospital's Medicare cost report: net patient
revenue (Worksheet G-3, Line 00200, Column 00100) and total patient care costs
(Worksheet G-3, Line 02600, Column 00100). The patient service margin is
(net patient revenue - total patient care costs) / net patient revenue, and is
null when net patient revenue is zero or negative. HCRIS publishes no margin of
error and suppresses nothing; a hospital that filed no report for the year is
absent from the table, never a zero.

Facility identity Financial values are attached to a hospital through the versioned facility-identity crosswalk, which reconciles the CMS CCN across CMS Provider of Services, HCRIS, and Care Compare. Every match is the exact CCN; no name, address, or NPI match is made.
Not yet published Operating margin, total margin, uncompensated care, cash, long-term debt, and bed utilization are not computed: their HCRIS worksheet line items have not been verified against the raw files. They are listed in the "Not yet published" table with the specific blocker rather than rendered as blanks.
