Community Health Intelligence
Prairielight is an open-source platform for community health analysis built on public government data (CDC PLACES, CMS, HRSA). Every indicator is derived from free federal datasets. Every transformation is a version-controlled dbt model.

Data provenance
What this data is
Every value shown here is fetched at runtime from the Prairielight REST API, which derives it from ingested federal datasets via version-controlled dbt models. The provenance panel above names the exact datasets, identifiers, vintages, and retrieval times this deployment is serving; a deployment used for validation serves synthetic data and states that there.
- County polygons: Census TIGER/Line cartographic boundaries (500k)
- Health burden measures: CDC PLACES county data. The dataset identifier, release and data year this deployment is serving are stated in the provenance panel above, which reads them from the API rather than from text written here.
- Facility locations: CMS Provider of Services + HRSA Uniform Data System
- Hospital financials: CMS HCRIS cost reports
Prairielight does not certify or vouch for these datasets. Each source agency remains responsible for its own data and its maintenance; what this deployment can attest to is the chain it actually built — which release it ingested, how the dbt models transformed it, and when it was retrieved.
